For three weeks in April and May 1953, Jack Benny took his Variety Revue stage show to the Curran Theater in San Francisco. Along with the 39 year-old violinist was Gisele MacKenzie, nationally known singing star, The Carsony Brothers acrobats, a magician and the great Sammy Davis Jr with the Will Maston Trio. There was a preview show, prior to the general opening in benefit of the San Francisco-Oakland Newspaper Guild. A later show, on May 2, would benefit the Acacia Branch of the Children's Hospital of the East bay. Staged like a vaudeville show from the 1920's and 1930's the first half of the program were the supporting acts on the bill, then coming on in the second half, Benny falls into his traditional master of ceremonies roll by introdcung The Carsony Brothers acrobactic act, a magician from Europe by the name of Frankson, The Martells and Mignon another acrobatic act, and Gisele MacKenzie followe with the Will Mastin Trio featuring Sammy Davis Jr. In addition to Jack's Beberly Hillbillies, Iris Adrian is featured in the latest version of the "Chicken Sisters" act. Delightfully, there is a whole package of recorded material for this event including a 15 minute promotional spot with Bill Weaver of KCBS and a recording of the second half of the show, featuring Jack Benny. When the troupe arrived in the Bay area, Jack was guest of honor at a Press and Union League Club dinner. He also recorded two radio programs. After closing, Benny would return to Hollywood to complete his radio series, and then take the group on its next leg of the tour, stopping in Seattle and Vancouver.
